The Public Relations Guidebook is a convenient reference for physicians giving helpful hints and suggestions on how to use public relations to increase community awareness. It is designed in a "how to" format so that education campaign activities can be managed by the surgeon and his staff, or preferably by a public relations/marketing manager on his staff, or by a local public relations firm giving them orthopaedic-specific assistance. There are chapters on media relations, community talks, professional communications, customer service and writing a plan to accomplish these activities. |
As a physician reads through the Guidebook, he’ll recognize many of the Zimmer products in the various examples and hints. For instance, if he reads about putting a video library in his office waiting room and decides he’d like to do it, there is an Arthritis Overview DVD he can purchase. If he reads about how patients learn better in a low-stress environment where they can re-read the material over and over to improve their retention of the information, the Zimmer Program has Kits and brochures that fit the bill. The planning chapter helps teach how to pull it all together.
| Product/Procedure-Specific Campaign Materials offer a turn-key personalized, practice marketing plan. Tactical tools and templates needed to implement a marketing plan in the local community have been designed with a consistent look, feel and viewpoint. Tools included: "How to" instruction guide; fill-in-the-blank press release template; camera-ready advertisement that can be personalized and placed in local newspapers; office display poster; table-tent cards; patient education brochures; and a referring physician letter template. The tools can be ordered or downloaded from ZimmerResource.com. All of the tools direct consumers to the Keeping Pace with Life® website or to a toll-free call center where they can review or request to be sent additional educational information consistent with, and complementary to, the materials you have provided. |

General joint replacement and product/procedure-specific campaigns are available. If a surgeon is trained and experienced with one or more of the Zimmer® MIS Procedures or successfully uses one of the Zimmer Unicompartmental or NexGen® High-Flex Knee products, the following product/procedure-specific campaigns can help him inform his community about these recent orthopaedic joint replacement advancements:
- Zimmer MIS 2-Incision™ Hip Replacement Procedure;
- Zimmer MIS Mini-Incision Hip Replacement Procedure;
- Zimmer MIS Quad-Sparing™ Knee Replacement Procedure;
- Zimmer MIS Mini-Incision Knee Replacement Procedure;
- Zimmer Unicompartmental High Flex Knee System;
- and Zimmer NexGen High-Flex Replacement Knees.

With pads of Tear Sheets showing professional color illustrations on the front of each sheet, a physician can easily explain a patient's condition, and as well as write in personalized notes to the patient. The back of each sheet contains educational information that is either general arthritis, or procedure-specific in nature. An imprint of the practice name, address and phone number can be included, or stickers with that information affixed to the sheet. |
When the patient encounter is completed, the surgeon just tears the sheet off the pad and gives it to the patient to take home. The sheet is now filled with important, patient-specific information which the patient can keep and refer to over time . . . and even show to family and friends as he tells them about his/her orthopaedic condition. And the surgeon’s name and address is readily accessible!
A physician may want to keep a pad in every exam room.
A Bookmark can be used as an additional educational tool. It will leave the office and help build awareness repeatedly. Every time the patient opens their book to the bookmark, they are being exposed to the message it carries. Consumer tests show that repeated exposures create the strongest recall. |
The Zimmer bookmarks are designed to give helpful disease management information to people who have arthritis, along with a short paragraph of information about their doctor on the other side.
Leaving quantities of the bookmarks in the waiting room, free for the taking, can make it easy for current patients to introduce the doctor to their friends. Passing the bookmarks out at a community event could have a similar result. And don’t forget about giving them to referring physicians, too.
The Community Seminar materials include everything needed to plan, organize, promote and conduct a seminar on arthritis for the community. It includes a day-by-day planning guide, newspaper advertisements, 6 presentations with suggested scripts, useful graphics and illustration, handouts, etc. Seminars can be held on a large scale in an auditorium, or kept on a smaller scale in an office conference room, or possibly conducted on the Mobile Learning Center (MLC) truck when the vehicle is in the area. Props are even available for loaner use. Conducting community seminars can help build a physician’s image as an educator in his field within the community and generally raise awareness. |

They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression. One way to make a good first impression is with a high-quality, professionally produced Practice Brochure. The Zimmer Program has available customized practice brochures in two different templated formats so a physician can promote his practice with a printed brochure, a digital brochure on CD, or both. Either format can be enclosed when paperwork is mailed to new patients, sent to potential patients who request information, sent to referring physicians, or simply passed out in the office or at community events. |
Both formats include such information as name and address of the practice, driving directions, name/photo/credentials of the physicians, insurance coverage, billing and payment procedures, name and photo of staff members, surgery information, etc. The CD format offers the additional benefit of including all the patient education information that is contained in the physician’s custom web site.
The Advertising materials from Zimmer offer a quick and easy method for physicians and hospitals to take practice marketing to the next level. The Advertising Campaign System consists of a CD, a User Guide, hard copies of general content advertisements for quick reference, and an easy-to-follow map of the entire CD content. It consists of 3 ad campaigns. Each campaign has a different theme, and includes 3 or 4 ready-to-use ‘clipart’ print advertisements. In addition, the elements of the ads are separate (headline, body copy, image), so that the elements can be mixed and matched within or across themes, or possibly used in some printed piece unrelated to the advertisements, or to give more variety during a longer advertising campaign. The ad campaigns were even produced in two different graphic styles from which the specific customer can choose the look they feel best represents the image they desire. |
Templates for Product/Procedure-Specific Advertisements are available in an assortment of color and black & white designs for Zimmer active lifestyle products and minimally invasive procedures. The templates can be personalized to the physician’s practice and are downloadable from ZimmerResource.com. |
